A group reading of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a great way to commemorate Human Rights Day, celebrated on December 10th around the world. This is also the concluding day of the 16 Days of activism to eliminate gender-based violence, which the AWC Berlin has marked with an amazing blog series edited by Kathy Lyon in 2020. By reading aloud the Declaration, we bring awareness to the inalienable rights held by all humans. In years past, the AWC Berlin members have met in person to read aloud the Declaration in 7 different languages, promoting unity and peace. Due to Covid, we offer this opportunity from the comfort of a virtual gathering.

You are welcome to read a section or to simply join for your listening pleasure. Children and other family members are welcome to read as well. Preference given to AWC members.

There are 30 sections and 3 pages of preambles in the declaration.

You may choose to read one or more sections by signing up. Please indicate your language preference. Bring your own translation. Please review the UN Declaration of Human Rights document and sign up for your section/sections:

Timing:  The reading takes approximately 15 minutes.  We will gather, get ourselves settled and then begin.  This doesn't have to be a 'perfect' reading, just a moment to honor the conclusion of 16 Days and mark Human Rights day.
