Child trafficking is a global concern that has bubbled in and out of public consciousness over the past 20 years, and with it, several myths and stereotypes about it. In honor of January being National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, we'll talk about what child trafficking is and how it differs from abduction or illegal migration. We'll delve into who is most vulnerable to it, and how trafficking intersects with other societal concerns such as racism, gender-based violence, climate change, poverty, healthcare, and immigration. We'll also discuss the main forms of combating trafficking: prevention, intervention, and aftercare.

About Our Speaker:

Dr. Jade Keller is Research Writer & Executive Editor for The Freedom Story, a nonprofit that aims to prevent child trafficking in northern Thailand through education, resources, and culturally relevant programs. Originally from Southern California, after completing a PhD in Political Science at UC Santa Barbara in 2010, Dr. Keller moved to Thailand to join the fight to end child trafficking. She manages The Freedom Story's blog, producing weekly articles about child trafficking, including an inside look at prevention efforts, as well as interviews with experts and activists committed to combating trafficking. She also advises on survey research and data collection. She, along with her husband and son, moved to Berlin in 2017.
