Long Before You Need It BACKGROUND
What & Why:
“Long Before You Need It” is the compiling and gathering of our data, information, contacts, intentions for critical items in our lives that will serve as a roadmap for our loved ones should a bus hit us today. Countless months, lawyers’ fees, stress on top of mourning for us would be alleviated for our parents, spouses, children. It’s the gathering of passwords, bank accounts, credit card accounts, investment accounts, leases, deeds, wills, trusts, keys, codes, safe combinations, medical records, doctors’ names, social media accounts, frequent flyer numbers…just to list a few items.
Who:
EVERYONE needs to do this—not just older folks—Singles, newly married, veteran married, widows, divorcees, young, old, college students, new professionals, artists, bankers, teachers, housewives, husbands, our parents, our neighbors, women, men.
Legitimately “getting hit by a bus” has happened to people we know; many members of our club in fact, and they will share their stories with us.
How:
Here’s how it will work…
· Many of us have attended the Long Before You Need It workshop in April 2022 and saw the importance of gathering data for our loved ones. However, in truth, we are all so overwhelmed by the monstrous task of attacking this task and the list! So here it is, practically autumn and we're still deer in headlights!
· So, we have the idea to do this together as a group--with our members, family, and friends. We're doing it as a year-long workshop where monthly we select one topic from the list. Bite size morsels are best. Then for that month, we gather data and support each other with weekly check-ins, cheerleading each other, sharing filing systems that work and/or does not work for us, and learn. Ultimately, by June 2023 we will have completed the Long Before You Need It package!
When & Where:
Come to our monthly meeting, the first Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m. Berlin/12:00 noon NYC. It's a Zoom meeting where we will assign the topic of the month and feature a relevant guest speaker.
Then weekly, we can check in with each other (optional) for some cheerleading, sharing of frustrations, sharing of good hints, and asking questions of each other as we are compiling data. This is also by Zoom at 6:00 p.m. Berlin/12:00 noon NYC for only 1/2 hour.
