JEAN COLLIER HURLEY
Jean Collier Hurley creates luminous photographs that reveal the vibrant pulse of cityscapes in major cities in the United States and abroad. Her prints have been exhibited in juried exhibitions and selected galleries and have been acquired for private and corporate collections. Her work has been published in four books, and her annual desk calendar of current work has an enthusiastic collector following.
She is currently focused on an extensive project in Berlin, drawn by the depth of its history, the strength and courage of its resilience, and the vibrance of its contemporary culture. She seeks to capture those qualities in each of the 20 boroughs that in 1920 created today’s Berlin. Illuminating 20 Berlins – Episode One: Mitte is the first book illustrating her work there.
Jean’s studies include urban design at Stanford University, book design at the Rhode Island School of Design, street photography in New York City and Paris, and workshops with celebrated photographers. She was a 2015 Inaugural Fellow in the Stanford University Distinguished Careers Institute. She holds a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Stanford University and an MBA in Finance from the University of California Berkeley. At home in San Francisco, she is actively engaged in supporting contemporary art and design and aid to the world’s most vulnerable populations. She is an advocate for exercise and a healthy workout routine and is an enthusiastic patron of artisanal coffee houses.
