This month, I’d like to appeal for your support of our Philanthropic effort, the third area of focus in the club’s mission, along with our Social and Cultural endeavors. 


Last year, members selected The ReDi School of Digital Integration as our local Berlin-based charity for 2023-2024, and until now, we have had few opportunities to fundraise for them. So on June 15, 2024, at 6:30pm, we will throw a big FUNdraiser PARTY. If you are in town, please do try to attend and bring your partner and friends - the €20 entry fee will cover our venue cost, the open bar and finger foods buffet. Come ready to bid on the 20+ auction items donated by your fellow members - bid for 1 or more spots at the belly dancing workshop, painting workshops, international meals at members' homes, house concert, margarita party, or for services like interior design advice, copy-editing and mobile photography editing. Check out the CATALOG OF AUCTION ITEMS, talk to your friends and bid on things together. If you cannot attend, you can still participate by absentee bidding, see instructions in the Catalog.


Register on Wild Apricot. A reminder that guests cannot be added on the App-- you’ll have to access Wild Apricot from the website (www.awcberlin.org member’s login). If you cannot add your guests, email president@awcberlin.org - we’ll add them for you.

We still need 5 volunteers to help with the event (our food team headed by Robina Lillecrapp needs 2 more volunteers, I need 2 ‘runners’ and 1 more person at check-in/out). Please let me know if you could help. Also teenagers are welcome - they could earn community service points.

MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING

This month AWC member Michelle Wu, Chief Digital Data and Technology, will speak about Artificial Intelligence. What is the potential? What are the risks? Is AI dangerous as Stephen Hawking predicted – or can humankind use it and create something positive? What needs to be discussed/addressed? What do we lay people need to know to use it effectively? 

Please Save the Date for our 130th Anniversary Charity Gala on September 21, 2024, at 19:00. There will be live entertainment, dinner and dancing and a silent auction of bespoke items. Invitations will go out on June 16. Click here for more information.

ANNIVERSARY

Sharing a bit of our history each month, The American Women’s Club of Berlin was founded in 1894 – making it the “FIRST of its kind in the Kaiser Land,” according to a Herald Tribune article in 1905.

FAWCO: Our International Network

At the Interim Meeting in Porto, Elsie Bose introduced FAWCO’s new Literacy Is Our Legacy initiative – supporting FAWCO’s writers and would-be writers and promoting reading and literacy worldwide. Check out books by FAWCO members worldwide.

AWC Berlin Authors - send an image of your book cover(s) and a blurb about the book along with your website to Elsie at advertising@fawco.org.

HOW TO AWC BERLIN

AWC BERLIN ONLINE

AWC members can manage their account, access the membership directory and sign up for events by logging into their AWC member account. You can access your account from your smartphone via the Wild Apricot Mobile app, or simply by going on any computer with internet and visiting the "Members Login" area of the AWC Berlin website.

Calendar and Event Registration

As a reminder, AWC Berlin members must log in with a user name and password to access events on our calendar and register for them.  So that we know to expect you, please remember to register for events you wish to attend.

IN THE MEMBERS ONLY AREA, you can:

  • Register for and cancel events
  • See your event registration
  • Add events to personal calendar
  • See who else is going
  • Much more...

Step 1: Go to the AWC website and click "Members Login" (request new password from the website if needed). Manage your events from the calendar.

Step 2: You could also download the Wild Apricot Member app to your smartphone or tablet and use your website login on the app.

Step 3: Poke around and get familiar with the tools. See the Instruction Guide for detailed steps and pictures of set up and navigation. Currently, the event registration feature of the app is not available to Android users, but otherwise the app is fine for Android users. Questions? WA-Admin@awcberlin.org.

AWC BERLIN FACEBOOK POLICY

The AWC Berlin Private Members Only Facebook group is open to current members only and is a casual, respectful and friendly forum for member announcements (for example, babies! weddings!, etc.), discussion, information and questions regarding AWC-related topics and/or life in Berlin. 

  • Only authorized AWC Berlin events that are already listed on the AWC Calendar can be created as an event in our Facebook group.

  • Please do not post charity donation requests or political items not related to the AWC Berlin.

  • You are invited to let us know about your business, but please limit commercial, self-promotional posts to Mondays and be sure to preface your post with MARKETING MONDAY. No more than one post per member per Monday, and please, no comments are allowed on these posts.

AWC BERLIN WHATSAPP COMMUNITY

AWC Berlin now has a WhatsApp Community where all of our WhatsApp groups reside. If you are the administrator on a WhatsApp group that is not already in our "AWC Berlin" Community, please email president@awcberlin.org. The benefits of a Community include:

  • Visibility into all AWC Berlin-related WhatsApp groups. 
  • Group chats are restricted to group members, but as a Community member, you can see the title and description of all the groups. If you are eligible to join based on the group's description, you are welcome to "ask to join" any of the groups. 
  • Administrators can make announcements to the whole community (e.g., for last-minute event info)

Our WHATSAPP policies are similar to our FACEBOOK policies

  • Please do not post charity donation requests or political items not related to the AWC Berlin.

  • No self-promotion. You are invited to let us know about your business on MARKETING MONDAY - in our private FACEBOOK group. Be sure to preface your post with MARKETING MONDAY. No more than one post per member each Monday.
