AWC BERLIN NEWSLETTER

THE BEAR FACTS

February 2025

Dear {Contact_First_Name},

Did you know the month is named for the Latin word februum, which means purification? February can be a great time for household organization and a personal detox. I hope to do some personal detox and reenergizing myself in India with 3 weeks of Ayurveda practice in Kerala. I'll be back though in time and hope to see you at our featured event and Monthly Membership Meeting this month (both detailed below).

The cold weather makes this the perfect time to enjoy some indoor cultural pursuits. The Berlinale is one of the most popular and famous film festivals in the world, drawing tens of thousands of visitors and numerous cinema luminaries to the city each February. This year's festival runs Feb. 13 - Feb. 23. JOIN our Berlinale WhatsApp group where we can make suggestions and coordinate plans. You can browse the list of films here, with the full program available on Feb. 4.

Do you want to be more engaged and give back to your AWC community? We are looking for help in several areas:

  • If you like going out to restaurants with your partner, consider volunteering to coordinate our monthly activity “Couples Dining Out”, which is on hiatus at the moment due to a lack of volunteers. It’s the one activity specifically with partners to give our spouses the opportunity to socialize. Once a month, you’d pick a restaurant, make a reservation and that’s it! We show up and have a nice meal together (all at our own cost).
  • We are also looking for a Neighborhood Co-Coordinator for MITTE. You don’t have to organize anything, just moderate the WhatsApp group and encourage/motivate people to get together for small, easy neighborhood outings.
  • Or if you prefer to join a TEAM, Antje, Alex and Nelly would love more ideas, hands and hearts - consider joining our Philanthropy, Programs or Membership Teams.

Happy Lunar New Year Year of the Snake tomorrow (January 29)!

Happy Valentine’s Day! and

Happy Winter Break to those with children in school!

xo

WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBER!

MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING

To accommodate members who live all over Berlin, we are trying different venues on both sides of the city, and are considering alternating locations for our Monthly Membership Meeting.

Join us for our Monthly Membership Meeting where you will hear club news, socialize with fellow members and enjoy a fascinating speaker. Bring a friend! If you know someone who is interested in our Club or this month’s speaker, invite her to join us, and add her to your registration in Wild Apricot.

At our January Monthly Membership Meeting, we talked about "interculturalism." With Valentine's Day in February, this month we thought it would fun to talk about "intercultural love".  Our panelists are AWC members - varied in ages, cultures, and religions - who will be sharing stories, challenges, learnings about their intercultural relationships.  We hope for lively audience participation with your questions and your own stories.
