THE BEAR FACTS Summer 2026

Dear {Contact_First_Name},
Happy 4th of July!
Independence Day is a reminder that America was founded on a belief in human dignity and the enduring right to a free future. As we commemorate the US’ milestone 250th anniversary, the current state of our country might make celebration feel difficult - but that is exactly why we must show up. I still have hope and belief in the ideals of this nation. Let’s come together, honor our shared heritage, and unite in our shared responsibility to safeguard the future of our democracy. Join us for our Independence Day Get-Together on Sunday, July 5th 12:30pm-4pm. Register here: https://awcberlin.wildapricot.org/event-6709922
Summer is my absolute favorite time of year - taking a PAUSE without having to feel guilty is such a luxury. I read, binge on good TV, and listen to fun summer music. Sometimes, doing absolutely NOTHING gives my mind an opportunity to wander ... letting it just RECEIVE ... new impulses, inspiration, energy. Just like my body needs sleep to regenerate, I think my mind needs the summer to reawaken. So I let go of the to-do list, get into the PAUSE (German for "break") mode, relax and receive! Wishing you the chance to do the same.
Our Club activities slow down over the next two months as many of us head out on summer travels. Some of our events will carry on and Berlin has endless possibilities to keep you busy, check out our calendar and reach out to fellow members on FB, in our WhatsApp community or in your neighborhood groups for company.
Have a fabulous Summer!

We’re celebrating July 4th in style as we gather with our friends and families at the Wirtshaus zur Pfaueninsel on the banks of the Havel River across from the World Heritage site of Pfaueninsel (Peacock Island) on Sunday, July 5th. We’ll enjoy grilled burgers and spare ribs, vegan burgers from the grill, along with all the fixings. There will be square dancing, face painting and even a bit of music to celebrate the US's 250th anniversary. Guests are welcome, so be sure to include family and friends in your RSVP via Wild Apricot!

NEW VENUE FOR KAFFEEKLATSCH
Starting July 3rd, our Monthly Coffee Morning (aka Kaffeeklatsch) will be on Potsdamer Platz. We hope that this central location will make it easier for more members from all across town to join in for a relaxed and informal get-together! Whether you’re coming by car or on public transportation, you’re bound to find parking in the underground garage or a convenient train/bus connection. Friends, visitors, and guests are welcome. Looking forward to seeing you there!

NEW OPEN FORUM GROUP CHAT
in our WhatsApp Community for all current members who wish to OPT IN and have a place to connect, ask broad questions, as well as to share announcements, posts, recommendations, invitations, their Marketing Mondays, requests, and generally chat about topics that are relevant to everyone in the Club, yet not specific to our interest/neighborhood groups.

|
|
NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS ACTIVITIES
If you have not done so, join your neighborhood WhatsApp groups for get-togethers which are more spontaneous and may not be listed on our Wild Apricot calendar. For example, over the next month, there are:
-
Mitte Stammtisch on July 28
-
Charlottenburg Book Club on July 29, reading “Theo of Golden”
-
Southwest Book Club on July 30, reading “The Correspondents”

CLUB POLICIES
To help all members get to know the Club a bit better, we’d like to occasionally feature various policies that we all refer to, in order to make the Club a welcoming, inclusive, active, and versatile community for all members. These policies can be found on the Club’s website. We’ll start off this series with our website’s engaging intro:
Founded in 1894, the American Women’s Club of Berlin (AWC Berlin) is a welcoming, English-speaking community for international women living in Berlin. We bring together women from more than 30 nationalities who share the American spirit — a can-do attitude, a love of learning, and a drive to make a difference, while having fun along the way.

|
|
|
|
|
|
While the sun is shining, the weather is (hopefully) not too hot, we’re focusing on getting our steps in this summer while discovering different areas of Berlin. Join our summer walking activities, soak up some vitamin D, connect with fellow members and let’s keep moving together!

We had a fantastically successful Quiz Night in June! Thank you to our volunteers (Kendra, Lexi, Meg, Fran, Nelly, Barbara and My-Linh) and to everyone who donated, bought raffle tickets and bid on the live & silent auctions. We couldn't have done it without these sponsors that donated prizes and helped us raise almost 3000€ for DonyA Residence in Berlin. Thank you to Sparkling Berlin , Wir sind am Leben - Das Musical, Tonhain Kollektiv, Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin, Miss S., Rosa Canina, Movie2Menu, Brewing Beauty Company, KPdesign, FUERST WIACEK and Monte Mente Berlin.

A huge thank you to Jennifer who did a phenomenal job running our JFKS flea market stand in June! Not only did she generously cover the table fees and gather all the donations, but she also set up and staffed the booth all day long. Thanks also to our team of volunteers who made donations, helped transport donations, set up and staff the stand, donated cupcakes, and cleaned up. We raised 350 euro for our international charity: the FAWCO Target Project "Power Her Path" supporting human trafficking survivors in Vietnam.

The Sister Club Project In June, we had our inaugural Sister Club meeting with the Lagos American Women's Club. 17 Lagos members and 11 of our members attended on Zoom. Lagos shared a great deal of interesting information about themselves and their City. They also presented information on the native cuisine and as a result, we are inspired for our members to come together at an authentic Nigerian restaurant here in Berlin. We’re planning for a second meet-up on Zoom, where we will share information about our club, Berlin and Germany. Keep your eyes on Wild Apricot for further details.
