AWC BERLIN NEWSLETTER

THE BEAR FACTS

March 2026

Dear {Contact_First_Name},

Congratulations to Director Sarah Burgess and the cast and crew of our benefit production of The Vagina Monologues last month. Tickets sold out on both nights and we raised over €3,300 for our charity, DonyA Residence. The performances were moving, powerful and empowering for both the audience and the performers alike. See the director’s letter in the Philanthropy section below.

March celebrates Women’s History Month in the United States, and International Women’s Day on March 8! It celebrates women's contribution to events in history. Your contribution this year is in your vote! If you are eligible to vote in the U.S., have you requested your ballot to vote from abroad this year? Read on below to learn more about overseas voting. We may be an ocean away, but every vote counts, so request your ballot today!

Your FAWCO Rep Veronica Riffle and I are heading to Malta for FAWCO’s global conference this month. Besides FAWCO business, there are club and self-development workshops and sharing best practices with sister clubs around the world. Look for our report back next month. As an AWC Berlin member, you are entitled to FAWCO benefits - find out more in the FAWCO section below.

March 19, 2026, is our first quarterly cooking evening for the families of the Ronald McDonald House in Berlin-Wedding. This is one of our most meaningful hands-on community experiences. It’s about more than just a curated menu; it’s about showing up and providing an evening of respite and care for parents whose children are undergoing hospital treatment nearby. Under the coordination of Maria Brezinsky, we have space for a dedicated team of 7 volunteers to make for a smooth evening. Register here.

We have a couple of great invitations from the community - the most recent being the Malaysian Ramadan Bazaar on March 13, 2026, taking place at the Malaysian Embassy. See invitation below.

Enjoy the start of Spring - we look forward to seeing you soon!

My-Linh, on behalf of the Board of Directors 2026

President, The American Women's Club of Berlin

The AWC Berlin is 100% member-run - we always welcome and appreciate your contribution, feedback and suggestions. Please email president@awcberlin.org.

    MEMBER CARE

If you know of anyone in our club who is going through a difficult time—whether it's due to illness, loss, or another challenge—please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Member Care team at membership@awcberlin.org. We’re here to offer support and encouragement when it’s needed most.

Thank you for helping us care for one another!

    REQUEST FOR HELP

The Board needs help with ideas for things for us to do as a club. Our club is thriving with social get-togethers, philanthropic events and activism, but we've received feedback that we should do more "special" events, so I am asking for specific help:

    1) embassy visits: do you have a connection to an embassy in Berlin? please help me connect with the Public Affairs office. Many embassies do tours and events for groups such as ours.

    2) speakers: we are always looking for interesting speakers for our Monthly Meetings (to talk about a topic) and Women's Salons (to talk about a personal journey). If you know someone who you think could resonate with the group, please let me know.

    3) art & culture ideas: Do you know of a landmark building that we should have a tour of? should we do a walking tour of your neighborhood? Do you know a tour guide with interesting tours? Is there a great art & culture exhibit that we should visit? please let me know or better yet, help organize it.

    4) venues:

    • We are also looking for reasonably-priced centrally located venues where we can hold our monthly meetings and other speaker events (capacity 50-60 people);
    • And ideas for a location that we could rent/borrow to have our July 4th BBQ and/or our Thanksgiving Potluck (e.g. a church or community hall).

Our club is 100% volunteer-run. With 300+ members, if you could help us organize just ONE outing - we'd have a lot of really fun things to do.

    MARCH MONTHLY MEMBER MEETING (evening)

    Wednesday, March 18, 2026 6:30pm

    Understanding Difference: Learn Constructive Dialogue

Ever wonder why some conversations feel difficult and hard to get through? In this meeting, facilitated by AWC members Abigail Napp, Jennifer Post Draeger, and Katrin Völkner, we will learn the basics of Constructive Dialogue, a vital skill in today’s opinionated and polarized society. Learn how the brain processes differences, how our values influence our beliefs, and gain some helpful tips for improving conversations on challenging topics.

Bring a friend! If you know someone who is interested in our Club or this month’s topic, invite her to join us, and add her to your registration in Wild Apricot.
