AWC BERLIN NEWSLETTER

THE BEAR FACTS

JUNE 2021

Dear {Contact_First_Name},

After a very long and difficult lockdown, the latest pandemic news is encouraging and most welcome.  Though the situation remains precarious, it certainly is uplifting to finally see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel.  As it has throughout the pandemic, the Board is continuously analyzing and assessing the most current COVID-19 regulations and the impact of those regulations on the Club’s programming.  As soon as the Club is safely permitted to do so, we anticipate adding some in-person group activities to the calendar.  Because this is a constantly developing situation, please keep an eye on the Club calendar (via the website or the WildApricot App), our weekly “What’s On” emails, and our private members-only Facebook page for the latest programming news.

June is our last month of full programming before the summer months when the Club slows down, so I hope you will take advantage of all that our fabulous volunteers have planned!  Our Monthly Membership Meeting - our last one before the summer - is on Tuesday, June 22, at 7:00pm.  This month, we turn our focus to health and specifically, women’s heart health.  Join us for this informative talk with guest speaker, Dr. Rebecca Baumann, a cardiologist who attended medical school in Germany, trained in the US, and currently practices in the US.  The Calendar this month also features a Film & Society Discussion, two Lunch & Learns, an Urban Watercolor Class, an Artist Studio Tour & Talk with AWC Member Antoinette Cauleyand of course, many of our usual favorites.  There’s seemingly something for everyone, so please check out our calendar and join us!

Speaking of programming, we need your help!  The Board has received a number of wonderful ideas for future programming, particularly in-person activities, but we need volunteers who are willing to organize and coordinate these activities.  Even though we may not be able to add these activities to the calendar right now due to the restrictions, we'd love to get to work on planning them so that when the time comes, they can be quickly added for our members to enjoy!  Read on below for more information about our needs, and please consider volunteering.  Nothing is terribly time-consuming.  More importantly, it's a great way to meet and get to know other members, while also having fun!

June is one of my favorite months in Berlin.  I hope that as restrictions once again continue to ease, you are able to get out and enjoy the city and its surroundings!

Cheers,

Shweta

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Thank you, Arina Francke

Arina Francke joined the Club in 2016, and as one of our longer standing members, has since been steadfastly supporting the Club.  Since 2018, Arina has been serving as one of the coordinators of Women’s Salon, an ongoing Club activity where members gather to learn about the journey of an extraordinary and inspiring woman.  Indeed, thanks to the Women’s Salon, our members have had the privilege of meeting and hearing from some incredible women.  She also channeled her creative side and enthusiastically stepped up to volunteer to perform in the Club’s charity productions of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues in both 2017 and 2018.  Beyond her contributions as a volunteer, Arina consistently shows support and enthusiasm for her fellow members and for the Club, and for that we are all truly grateful.  Thank you, Arina!

Without dedicated volunteers, there would be no AWC Berlin. From every activity to administrative function, there are members stepping up to make this club a rich social, cultural and philanthropic outlet for our 250+ members. If you'd like to nominate a member, please email newsletter@awcberlin.org
