AWC Berlin What's On this Week

AWC Berlin -  Year End 2018

December 17-23, 2018

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS:

At our Annual General Meeting last Monday, December 10, the membership elected a new Board of Directors and selected JACK as our local charity for 2019.

After 3 years, it was an emotional farewell for me. But I am happy to hand-over the gavel to Janel and her very capable team. Thank you to each and every one of you for your trust and support. If you missed the AGM, here is my farewell address.

Congratulations to President-elect Janel Schermerhorn (far right) and the 2019 AWC Berlin Board of Directors, from left to right: Second VP Ali Siegert, Treasurer Angela Andersen, Secretary Sara Switzman, First VP Lissa Rosenbloom.

Also a Big Thank You to our 2018 volunteers, without whom this Club would not thrive.  We missed those of you who could not be there on Monday night, but hope to see you at our Volunteers Appreciation event in January.

The best part was this Mittens Tree. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to gift 3 large bags of hats, scarves and gloves to the Berliner Stadtmission. A big shout-out to Philanthropy Chair Stephanie Biery for the idea and flawless execution, and for her unflappable resolve. Faced with unwilling taxis, she WALKED to the venue - carrying the large ladder, and rolling a very large suitecase filled with raffle prizes.

Speaking of raffle prizes, we also raised 580 Euro for the FAWCO Target Program, benefiting refugees in Jordan (sending girls to school, teaching women empowerment/leadership skills, and working with men to manage domestic violence).

JACK was selected as our local Berlin-based charity 2019.  Representatives from JACK will speak at the February General Meeting (Monday, Feb 11 evening). Meanwhile, here's a description of the organization and the proposed project.

We do have a few things happening this week, then our club takes a holiday break and resumes in full force on January 7. Look for your January newsletter coming out at the end of this week.
