The Bear FactsMay 2018

Dear {Contact_First_Name},

In May, we hope to see you at several important club-wide events: Robin Goldsby Charity Concert, Women & Investing Seminar, our General Meeting with FAWCO and the Mamma Mias, and lastly, our Members Showcase at the end of the month. The spirit of the month is CELEBRATION. Fundraising for a worthwhile cause, managing your own finances, finding out how you can participate in global issues, and celebrating your own and your fellow members' talents will leave you empowered and energized.

The Charity Concert (Monday, May 14 7pm) and the Women & Investing Seminar (Wednesday, May 23 7pm) are open to the public - so please spread the word and bring lots of friends.

Our last charity event was in February with V-Day 2018 - this week, Molly and I met with our beneficiary Ban Ying e.V. to hand-over the "check" (pictured left). On behalf of the Board, I'd like to, once again, thank Molly Brown and her team of volunteer cast, crew and event helpers. We were able to produce a magnificient community event and raised 5000 Euro due to everyone's generous donation of time and talent.  Read Molly's Special Report Back.

AWC Berlin has joined FAWCO to get out the Vote! Did you know that only 4% of eligible American voters living overseas vote in the last presidential election? Please REGISTER now – it’s an important year for your voice to be heard. Depending on your voting state, you would most likely have to register every year. AWC Berlin will host several voter registration meetings.  More information here.

Enjoy the wonderful Spring weather - if you have not been, do visit the Britzer Garden - it is gorgeous this time of year!

Love,

My-Linh

Featured Event:  Robin Goldsby Charity Piano Concert

Please join the American Women’s Club of Berlin and Steinway & Sons Berlin for Robin Goldsby’s Home and Away benefit concert, raising funds to help educate refugee girls in Jordan.

Robin Meloy Goldsby’s solo piano career began in posh New York City venues and exclusive Nantucket resorts, and has taken her to the European castles, five-star hotels, and concert stages where she now performs. Following the release of her first two solo piano albums and the publication of her hit book, Piano Girl, Robin appeared on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered and Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland. Robin has been on the prestigious Steinway Artist roster since 2010.

Robin’s solo piano music—transparent, effortless, and spellbinding—lures her listeners to a place that feels like home. With seven solo piano albums to her name, Robin uses her music and stories to serve as a cultural ambassador for European organizations dedicated to transatlantic relations. In 2017, she played her Home & Away program at Buckingham Palace for HRH, the Prince of Wales and his organization In Kind Direct. She has performed original music for Chancellor Angela Merkel and former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt; numerous US consulates in Europe; Amerika Haus NRW; Steinway & Sons, worldwide; and the NGO International Women’s Forum at the United Nations in Geneva.

His unique style and pared-down aesthetic remain influential to this day, and have had a profound impact on innumerable successors. On the 100th anniversary of his birth, C/O Berlin is commemorating Irving Penn with a major retrospective. The exhibition features around 240 works and was organized by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in collaboration with the Irving Penn Foundation.
