AWC BERLIN NEWSLETTER

THE BEAR FACTS

MAY 2023

Dear {Contact_First_Name},

The month of May is chock-full of long weekends, with holidays on the 1st, the 18th, and the 29th. My family and I took advantage of this first long weekend with a train to the Baltic Sea town of Binz on the island of Rügen. We love this little village with its seaside promenade  certainly a different beach experience than what I grew up with in Florida, but one with its own north German charm. I hope you, too, had a chance to enjoy the sunnier days.

We have a number of spring-inspired events on the calendar this month, from Sumi-E Ink Painting with Master Artist Imako Umesaka, to the return of Women on the Move, with interesting walks uncovering hidden places and stories of Berlin that I bet you didn’t know about.  Our May membership meeting is the evening of Tuesday the 23rd, featuring lawyer and human rights advocate Kimberly Marteau Emerson, who will share excerpts from her forthcoming book, Hugging Angela Merkel ... and Other Tales of an Ambassadorial Spouse.

On Saturday the 27th, I’ll continue the Club’s longstanding participation in a U.S. Memorial Day remembrance ceremony organized by the local VFW post. If you or your family would like to attend as well, please let me know.

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Warmly,

Jennifer

      Elder care

Many members in the FAWCO international community have elderly parents, and supporting them while simultaneously taking care of ourselves and our families is a daunting task. This is a huge topic area with many different facets that need consideration, e.g., when to make the transition to a retirement village/frail care, developing funeral plans and health directives, and being mindful of our own needs and those of our families.

FAWCO’s Health Team is looking at creating Elder Care resources for our members. Please provide your feedback and interest in participating in an Elder Care community to Deb Hadley and Tharien van Eck, Health Co-Chairs at health@fawco.org

AWC Berlin is a founding member of FAWCO, a network of American and international women's clubs around the world.  AWC Berlin members are automatically members of FAWCO, connecting you to philanthropy and advocacy on a global scale.  Learn more at FAWCO.org
